The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) lasts 14 days and teaches you to how to be a professional and fun scuba diving instructor. If you’d like to prepare before launching straight into it, we offer an intensive 2-day IDC Prep programme, so you’re raring to go on that first morning.

The IDC is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) programme. Most candidates complete the whole IDC and go on to attend the Instructor Examination (IE).

You’ll learn how to teach in the classroom, in a confined water environment and also in open water. We’ll build your dive theory up to a professional teaching level across the topics of physics, physiology, equipment, general skills and environment and the RDP. Plus, you’ll master demonstration-quality skills that you completed on your Divemaster course.

The PADI system of diver education and the latest business and marketing trends of the industry are a key focus of the IDC, so you know how to make yourself a valuable asset to any dive business.

Risk management sessions will develop you into a safe and insightful instructor and we’ll ensure you’re abreast of the latest PADI Standards and legal knowledge, necessary for any PADI Scuba Diving Instructor.

Also included in this programme is the Emergency First Response Instructor course, which is required of all PADI Scuba Instructors. Through practical workshops, studying and discussions, you’ll learn how to teach the EFR qualification – emergency care skills highly valued by everyone, not just scuba divers.
