This 3-day PADI Open Water course in Koh Samui allows you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters anywhere in the world. The course is divided into three parts: online dive theory, confined swimming pool sessions, and four open water dives, giving you a complete introduction to scuba diving.
PADI E-Learning makes the dive theory easy and convenient to complete on any Apple or Android device before your arrival in Koh Samui, saving your vacation time for in-water training.
Once you book, we provide a code and instructions to start your theory at home or even during your flight to Koh Samui. This approach reduces classroom time and allows you to complete the full PADI Open Water course in less than three days, maximizing your diving experience in Thailand.
On the first day of your PADI Open Water course in Koh Samui, we will pick you up from your hotel between 8:15–9:00 am, depending on your location, and transfer you to our dive facility. Here, you will meet your friendly PADI instructor who will review the dive theory with you and introduce you to your scuba equipment before starting the confined pool session.
Your confined water training takes place in one of our pools, in small groups, allowing you to complete all pool exercises in a single day. During these sessions, you will learn how to use scuba gear safely, practice essential skills, and prepare for any scenario in open water. We take extra time in the pool to ensure you are 100% confident and comfortable before diving in Koh Samui’s open waters. Not only will you gain valuable skills, but you’ll also have plenty of fun exploring underwater.
The open water portion of your PADI course in Koh Samui consists of 4 dives spread over two days. During these dives, you will practice essential scuba skills both underwater and at the surface to ensure you become a competent and confident diver. Skills are divided across the 4 dives so you can focus on a few at a time while spending most of your dive exploring the stunning marine life and underwater landscapes with your instructor.
Your first open water day begins with a hotel pickup around 7:00 am, followed by a transfer to the boat pier where you meet your instructor and set up your scuba equipment. The boat ride to one of Thailand’s top dive destinations, Koh Tao, takes approximately 90 minutes. Upon arrival, you will complete your first dive in a shallow bay, enjoying the clear waters and vibrant coral reefs. Between dives, you will have a relaxing lunch and a short break before heading to the second dive site. After the second dive, the boat returns to Koh Samui, typically arriving between 3:00–3:30 pm.
Your second day of open water training in Koh Samui begins with a hotel pickup around 7:00 am. Depending on the dive sites selected for your 3rd and 4th dives, the boat ride may take between 45–90 minutes. During the day, you will complete your final “graduation dives,” with lunch and a short break between dives. After finishing your dives, the boat returns to Koh Samui, typically arriving between 1:15–3:30 pm.
Upon completion, congratulations! You are now a certified PADI Open Water Diver, authorized to dive to depths of up to 18 meters and qualified to rent scuba equipment and tanks anywhere in the world. This certification opens the door to endless diving adventures and a lifetime of underwater exploration.

A fantastic experience as a first-time diver and thrilled to obtain the open water certificate with instructor Filip! Filip is such a warm and encouraging person, his instructions were precise and easy to follow. I didn’t panicked a lot because I know he is by my side, and when you did well, he made sure to cheer for you and that really helped me gain the confidence. Love the atmosphere among the crew, the instructors, captain, crew and participants all came from different countries and they are all friendly and chilled, you can tell it’s a good team! I recommend Discovery Divers if you are planning to learn diving in Samui - and look out for Filip and get him as your instructor if you could!
Let me start my review by saying, DO IT, diving will be a life changing experience and if you do with Discovery Divers you will not regret it. I did my OWC (Open Water Certificate) with them, having Margaux as an instructor, and it was a blast. She was very professional and patient with me. While I was learning and watching her teach me the required skills, I could notice how familiar and trained she is with diving, it was very inspiring having her as a teacher. She is very kind and I hope to see her again when I am back 😊 or somewhere around the world.
Discovery really provides a wonderful overall experience. As first-time divers, our instructor Zoe made us feel comfortable and confident with the equipment and explained the various skills to us thoroughly. Another aspect that stood out was that the whole team on the boat were so helpful and supportive, everyone was willing to assist, which promoted a really warm and friendly atmosphere. Excited to return and do some more diving with them!!
