Rescue diver is maybe the most rewarding and challenging course of all the non-professional courses. You will spend 2-3 days learning skills to be prepared to help yourself in case of emergency and to help other divers in time of need. The rescue diver course will greatly improve your confidence in and out of the water and make you a better scuba diver.

In order to complete your PADI rescue diver course you will need have a current first aid/cpr or emergency first responder certification. If you do not have one then you will need to take a Emergency First Responder course with us on the first day of your program. Our instructors are certified emergency first responder instructors so the course can be done on-site with our instructors.
Your PADI Rescue Diver course in Koh Samui begins at around 9:30 am with the theory session. You will learn essential rescue concepts, self-rescue techniques, and how to assist other divers in emergencies. To save time, you can complete the PADI e-learning portion of the course before arriving on the island. This allows you to review theory with your instructor quickly and spend more time practicing skills in the water.
After theory, you will move to our on-site pool in Koh Samui for confined water training. Here, you will practice the practical skills needed to respond to real emergency situations underwater, including rescuing panicked divers, managing stress, and performing safety procedures. Small group sizes ensure personalized attention, so you gain confidence and mastery before progressing to open water scenarios.
Your second day of the PADI Rescue Diver course in Koh Samui focuses on open water training. You will put into practice the skills learned in the pool under realistic open water scenarios. Your instructor will guide you through multiple emergency situations, helping you learn to recognize potential problems, respond quickly, and handle each scenario safely and confidently. Small groups ensure personalized attention, giving you the best learning experience on the island.
After completing the open water training, you will finalize any remaining knowledge reviews and log your dives with your instructor. A full debrief will review your progress and confirm your competence. Congratulations — you are now a PADI Rescue Diver, certified to handle emergency situations and prepared to dive safely anywhere in the world!

A fantastic experience as a first-time diver and thrilled to obtain the open water certificate with instructor Filip! Filip is such a warm and encouraging person, his instructions were precise and easy to follow. I didn’t panicked a lot because I know he is by my side, and when you did well, he made sure to cheer for you and that really helped me gain the confidence. Love the atmosphere among the crew, the instructors, captain, crew and participants all came from different countries and they are all friendly and chilled, you can tell it’s a good team! I recommend Discovery Divers if you are planning to learn diving in Samui - and look out for Filip and get him as your instructor if you could!
Let me start my review by saying, DO IT, diving will be a life changing experience and if you do with Discovery Divers you will not regret it. I did my OWC (Open Water Certificate) with them, having Margaux as an instructor, and it was a blast. She was very professional and patient with me. While I was learning and watching her teach me the required skills, I could notice how familiar and trained she is with diving, it was very inspiring having her as a teacher. She is very kind and I hope to see her again when I am back 😊 or somewhere around the world.
Discovery really provides a wonderful overall experience. As first-time divers, our instructor Zoe made us feel comfortable and confident with the equipment and explained the various skills to us thoroughly. Another aspect that stood out was that the whole team on the boat were so helpful and supportive, everyone was willing to assist, which promoted a really warm and friendly atmosphere. Excited to return and do some more diving with them!!
